We are looking volunteers to serve on our Board of directors who want to make a difference for seniors in our community. Mount Vernon At Home is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization in the heart of our region that engages and enriches seniors who are choosing to age in their homes and communities. This grass-roots concept of ‘senior villages’ began more than 15 years ago with a group in the Boston area who wanted to live and age in the communities where they raised their families. Senior Villages are a national movement with nearly 400 villages across the country, and nearly 70 and counting in the DC Metro area.
We are a
well-established village, founded 15 years ago serving members over a wide
geography in the south Alexandria, Mount Vernon area of Fairfax County,
Virginia. This volunteer-driven nonprofit supports its members by
offering social connections and activities to reduce isolation. Our
Village provides services such as errands, transportation, tech help,
continuing education and more to help our members stay safe, secure and
engaged. The COVID crisis has extenuated the need to provide a safety net
to seniors, who may now more than ever, choose to stay at home instead of enter
more high-risk environments. The
pivot of Villages to meet the increasing demands of the aging population is
upon us.
Mount
Vernon At Home is looking for vision makers to help us re-define our village to
provide relevant value and services, to broaden the scope of our organization
to be more inclusive, to critically evaluate our model to go beyond now to what
we could be. Where do we fit within the continuum of care services
provided to seniors choosing to age in place? What provides the greatest
value to seniors? How do we scale effectively to meet these needs?
