This is a trying and uncertain time for everyone. Just as Fairfax County starts to reopen for business we see civil unrest happening all around us. The Chamber reached out to Fairfax County Police Department and here is some useful information provided by Sean Corcoran, the crime prevention officer at the Franconia Police Station that may help you and your business.
Many resources are available on
www.ready.gov/business This website provides good information and help on preparing for natural disasters and that could also be applicable in a civil unrest situation.
Here are a few things to think about:
- Review your insurance policies and make sure you are ready to meet any type of disaster including potentially violent activities.
- Ensure your security systems including locks and security cameras are in good working order.
- Keep valuables out of sight, if possible.
- Have materials on hand to harden your business such as wooden boards to put over windows.
Fairfax County Alerts,
www.fairfaxcounty.gov/alerts is the official alert system for Fairfax and people can register and set up their individual accounts to get alerts they want including alerts for traffic closures, weather emergencies, and other situations. In addition, people can monitor the Twitter feeds of the various public safety agencies in the county, including the
Fire and Rescue Department,
Police Department, and the
Office of Emergency Management. These are some of the best ways to stay on top of the current information.
Call the police non-emergency number 703-691-2131 If you see things that are suspicious please use the non-emergency number and contact the police. It is not an inconvenience for them to come and check on your situation.
